Nature
Big
Foot Beach State Park
This 272-acre park has about 5 miles of hiking
trails with a 1/2 mile self-guided nature trail. Maps are
available at the office. Includes lagoons, wooded areas,
open grass and marshland. Many bird species can be found
during migration periods and woodland species nest here.
A variety of owls can be found in winter. Entrance fee or
sticker required. Located on Hwy 120 south of Lake Geneva.

Duck
Lake Nature Area
The southern side of Lake Como has a hiking trail
on what was originally a railroad bed. The 2-mile walkway
passes through woods, brush, and pastures along the lakeshore.
Also called "Warbler Walkway" because most of
the state's warblers have been seen here. Flycatchers, thrushes,
catbirds, and finches can also be seen along the path. The
west end of the trail can be located as you go west on Hwy
50 from Lake Geneva, turn right on Schofield Road., go north
to Lake Como. The trail starts behind a tan colored metal
garage at the east end of the South Shore Road, OR go west
on Hwy 50 from Lake Geneva, turn right on Forest St. Turn
left briefly on McDonald then right on Marshall Ln. Go north,
turn left on Grandview. Take first right, still on Grandview,
follow down to the trail.

Nature in Kishwauketoe
Highway 67, Williams Bay; visitors may park in
the lot at the intersection of Highway 67 and Stark Street
(at the Lions Field House). Just across the street is the
entrance garden and shelter where a self-guided tour brochure
is available that will take nature lovers along four miles
of managed (but unpaved) walking paths. Habitats include
wetland, prairie, kettles (glacier-caused depressions),
deciduous forest, a trout stream and woodlot.
Fontana
Fen
This 10-acre conservation area near Fontana is home to one
of the rarest types of wetlands, the calcareous fen. A fen
is a type of wetland prairie with an internal groundwater
system high in calcium and magnesium where only a few specialized
plants can live. There is also lowland prairie. The blooming
prairie plants change throughout the spring, summer, and
fall. Grass-of-Parnassus, Fringed Gentian, and Brook Lobelia
are a few of the plants found only in the fen. The Fen is
located on Hyw. 67 between Fontana and Walworth west of
St. Benedict Church. A small parking area at the entrance
is located on the southeast corner of South Main St. and
Dewey.
Four
Seasons Nature Preserve
This City of Lake Geneva preserve has 40 acres of wetland
(sedge meadow, pond, fen, tamarack) and 20 acres of upland
that are being restored to prairie. Informative signs placed
along the trails describe the plants and animals you may
see. A 400ft. boardwalk leads to an observation tower in
the wetland. Birds such as red-tail hawks, sandhill cranes,
bobolinks, warblers, goldfinches, thrashers, catbirds, geese,
ducks, and great blue herons frequent Four Seasons. Mammals
include deer, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, woodchucks,
muskrats, and fox. Snakes, toads, salamanders, and several
frog species too. Four Seasons is located about 1.2 miles
south of Lake Geneva's Badger High School on Cty Hwy H.
