On May 23, 2009, the Geneva Lake Conservancy will unveil another facet of its Watershed Program: "Vulnerable Geneva Lake" informational coasters. With the help of a grant from the Gaylord and Dorothy Donnelley Foundation, the Conservancy was able to produce an initial run of 5,000 Vulnerable Geneva Lake coasters.

Each informational coaster features one of four photographs taken by local nature photographer Kristen Westlake. On the back are interesting facts about Geneva Lake and its watershed.

The Conservancy will distribute these coasters to local restaurants on Memorial Day weekend. In addition to the coaster distribution program, the Conservancy will also be a beneficiary of the Georgie B's one-year Anniversary Memorial Day Celebration. Set for Saturday May 23, 2009, from 12:00 PM until 4:00 PM, Georgie B's will have Wisconsin Brats, Louisiana-style sausage, hot dogs, chips, drinks and live music. Additionally, the day's proceeds will be donated to the Conservancy. Georgie B's is located at 441 Mill Street in Fontana, Wis.

The Geneva Lake Conservancy encourages everyone to take a moment over the Memorial Day weekend to consider the beauty and importance of Geneva Lake. Especially now as we commemorate the long awaited arrival of summer, it is readily apparent what an incredible impact the lake has on the spirit of the region, as well as the wellbeing of those of us that live and visit the area. Enjoy the summer and be kind to the lake.
