Historic Black Point Estate Transferred
to the State of Wisconsin
On September
26, 2005, history was made again at the Black Point Estate,
as William O. Peterson, great-grandson of Conrad Seipp,
the original owner of the property, transferred the deed
to the Black Point property to the State of Wisconsin.
The property,
first built in 1888, will forever be protected by a conservation
easement held by the Geneva Lake Conservancy and the Black
Point Historic Preserve, Inc. The State will retain ownership
of the property while leasing it to the Preserve. Black
Point will be available to the public through occasional
tours next summer and through regular tours in 2007.
Called
"the best surviving example of the great summer houses
in Wisconsin and probably also Illinois" by Jack
Holzhueter, an editor of the State Historical Society's
Wisconsin Magazine of History, Black Point consists of
an architecturally unique nineteenth century home, one
of the oldest and arguably, greatest in the Geneva Lake
area. The home is listed on the National Register of Historic
Places and the property itself consists of approximately
seven and a half acres on 620 feet of undisturbed Geneva
Lake shoreline.
