"A group of local citizens in Wisconsin and Illinois are proposing the establishment of a possible Hackmatack National Wildlife Refuge. With the help of Openlands and Trust for Public Land, the Friends of Hackmatack have launched a bi-state effort to protect a regional landscape rich in key biological resources in northern McHenry County, Illinois and southern Walworth County, Wisconsin.

"The proposed refuge seeks to preserve rare and significant plants and wildlife, expand recreational opportunities, and promote a diverse and vibrant local economy for the region. Hackmatack provides a landscape-level conservation initiative that will connect preserved lands in Illinois in Wisconsin while affording the opportunity for local gateway communities to capitalize on compatible recreation and economic development."

Please join us! For more information on the event, please contact us by email or phone: (262) 275-5700.
