Lisa Seiser of the Lake Geneva Regional News has done a wonderful two-part special on the Geneva Lake Conservancy...

Geneva Lake Conservancy leaders are quick to admit they aren't extremely disappointed that the country's economic slowdown has forced a pause in area development.

Many Thanks: Corporate Sponsors

It's not that they are against growth. The slowdown has allowed the conservancy to work on its goals, mission statement and strategic plan for the future.

"With this lull in the market, it has given us that opportunity to focus on our mission and then utilize our resources in a direction to fulfill that mission," Conservancy Board Chairman Bob Klockars said...continue to GLC Instant News to read both articles.

Shodeen: Jackson Creek Update

On Wednesday, May 12, 2010, the Conservancy's Executive Director, Joseph McHugh, joined a group of Walworth County and Town of Delavan Zoning Officials to get a firsthand look at the "Shores of Delavan Lake," a residential development project proposed by Shodeen, Inc.

The developer plans to obtain a Conditional Use Permit (CUP), in order to build a Conservation Subdivision on the almost 300-acre property southeast of Mound Road and County F. Most recently, on Tuesday, May 18th, the Board Members of the Town of Delavan tabled consideration of Shodeen's CUP application, pending legal review. The review was requested by the Town Plan Commission to address conflicts between the County's Zoning ordinance and the Town of Delavan's Land Division regulations.

The Conservancy's primary objective is to ensure that the ecological health of both Lake Delavan and the Inlet is protected for the future, and we will continue to monitor this project as it moves forward.

Fontana Grade School students help clean up Hildebrand Woods

On Friday, May 28th, approximately 30 students from Fontana Grade School helped to remove invasive plants from the Hildebrand Woods. Areas that were once covered in Dame's Rocket are now open to allow native plants to grow and flourish. The students spent three hours pulling and hauling the invasive plant out of the woods. Many thanks to each and every one of them for their hard work, it is greatly appreciated.

In Honor...

Every once in a while, we at the Conservancy will receive a donation given in someone's name, either because they're just great people, because it's a birthday or an anniversary, or to honor someone who has passed away. We'd like to take a moment to highlight those names that have been honored for the month of June:

Happy Anniversary: Ryan & Tracy Fitzgerald
Happy Birthday: Victoria McHugh
Happy Birthday: Joseph Falcone
Happy Birthday: Tom Judd
Happy Birthday: Jim Celano

Many Thanks to our Corporate Sponsors
