Kristen Tenney Freytag
Kristen Tenney Freytag, a lifelong resident of the Lake Geneva area joined the Geneva Lake Conservancy board in 2022. She comes to the Conservancy with a passion for promoting respect for our natural resources and encouraging environmental stewardship.
After working in the advertising field in Chicago and raising their 5 children, Kristen returned to her passion of the natural world and became a Wisconsin Master Naturalist earning a certificate through the UW Madison extension program in 2021, while strengthening her commitment to conservation and land protection.
Kristen was the Conservation Chair for the Lake Geneva Garden club (2019-2023), giving her the opportunity to hear from some of the top environmentalists in the country through this role, she also met with Wisconsin legislators advocating for current conservation issues. For Kristen, being a part of the movement to protect our earth by advocating for federal legislation, such as The Recovering America’s Wildlife Act, Build Back Better Act, Growing Climate Solutions Act, and the Great American Outdoors Act, has been most rewarding.
Since 2021, Kristen continues to serve on the Environmental Education Foundation, Inc (EEF) board. The EEF promotes environmental awareness in the Geneva Lake area to all ages, awarding high school students scholarships for those going into environmentally focused studies as well as awarding local elementary schools financial assistance for Outdoor educational programs.
After living abroad for 11 years, Kristen and her husband T chose to raise their family in the very same place in which they both grew up, the Lake Geneva area, sharing with them their deep love and appreciation for the lake and its surroundings. Kristen’s passion to help protect and preserve the land and waters of this community continues through the work at the GLC.
